The ROM card is replicated the same as a regular 5" CD with silk screen on-body print. It is not a viable option for order quantities of fewer than 500 cards. The high cost of orders below 500 units is primarily due to the cost of glass mastering. For details of cost see the CD-ROM business card price list.


The CD-R card is a write once disc, but has the advantage of coping with smaller quantities, and offers a more cost effective method of updating customers on a regular basis with current information. Toucan eMedia also offers a Personalised CD-R service that includes burning, inkjet printing, packaging and, if necessary, programming. Contact us for more information.

The unique design allows it to fit into any standard CD-ROM drive. It fits snugly into the tray and plays just like a regular CD. It does not have to be round, but it does have to have edges that touch the rim of the 80mm tray in your CD-ROM / DVD unit. The oblong card has a moulded 80mm rim on the underside of the card. We DO NOT supply cards with punched out pins or shaped CD's, due to the danger of them breaking in the computer drive tray. These also have a tendency to fly around like " an airplane's propeller" - and therefore do not work. The CD-R Business Cards from Toucan eMedia work perfectly in 99% of CD drives.

Approximately half the weight of a normal 5" CD - about 9½ grams. Perfect weight for sending through the post.

There are many different types of packaging available, the most popular being the clear PVC wallet. Although the "new" Crystal Jewel Case is a very sexy piece of kit. We stock all formats as well as designing and creating new concepts for clients.

Yes if the CD-ROM drive tray has a slot for a 80mm CD. But the card will definitely NOT work in a Car CD player or CD stacker or Jukebox. The simple answer is "almost all computer machines".

You can now purchase a starter kit that includes all you'll need to get started. See the Starter Kits page for details. This will give you the opportunity to make your own CD-R Business Cards that can include:

A standard CD-ROM holds between 28Mb - 30Mb. 

This is the equivalent to:- 

  • 3 minutes of video
  • a 60 minute presentation
  • or 2,000 pages of text with pictures 

Virtually anything that works on a full-size CD-ROM works on these business card cd's. CD's are read from the centre out, therefore any increase in capacity is commensurate with the width and length of the card. (For example a 80mm round disc will hold 190Mb and a normal 5" CD 650Mb.)

This is dependent on the size of the card. Our cards hold 30Mb (business card size) to 50MB (other sizes) . 

Larger capacities up to 100MB are coming on to the market, though the problem with these is that they lose the marketing impact of the "credit card size" concept.

The 100MB card measures 66mm x 80mm. CD's are read from the centre out, therefore any increase in capacity is commensurate with the width and length of the card. For example a 80mm round disc will hold 190MB and a normal 5" CD 650MB.

For the highest quality recording we recommend you use 8x recording speed, although it is possible to write up to 12x on our cards (your choice).

Yes, in 90% of all CD re-writers, although we suggest you purchase 10 initially to test on your machine, then buy bulk.

No, only cards that have an inkjet printable surface. Toucan eMedia offer these however the image quality is poorer than with a photo-quality label. Toucan eMedia also offer a choice of two specially adapted Epson printers that print high resolution photo-quality graphics onto printable 5" CD-R's and CD-R Business Cards. The Inkjet printers offer 1440dpi print resolution.

You can now print onto "Photo Quality High Gloss Labels" for CD-R Business Cards. We also stock a unique "Easy to Use" Label Applicator with a Free CorelDraw Template to apply the labels accurately. The label option gives a far superior finish when compared with directly printing onto the cards with in jet printable surfaces.

From order placement and receipt of 2 CD-R's (1 for data & 1 for on-body design) to delivery is usually 15 business days (3 weeks), although we can probably put them through faster depending on the time of year. We request a print of your on-body design and notes of any specific colours to match with their Pantone reference. We will work closely with you to ensure your deadlines are achieved.
