Are DVD Business
Cards available? |
 |
DVD
Business Cards are available in both formats. We offer 350MB
saddle cards as factory completed DVD business cards and
330MB DVD business cards that you can record for yourself.
|
 |
What
is the basic difference between a CD-ROM Card (Replicated)
and a CD-R Card (Recordable)? |
 |
The
ROM card is replicated the same as a regular 5" CD with
silk screen, litho of digital on-body print. It is not a
viable option for order quantities of fewer than 500 cards.
The high cost of orders below 500 units is primarily due
to the cost of glass mastering. For details see the CD-ROM
business card datasheet.
The CD-R card
is a write once disc, but has the advantage of coping with
smaller quantities, and offers a more cost effective method
of updating customers on a regular basis with current information.
Toucan eMedia offers a Personalised CD-R service that includes
burning, inkjet or digital direct on-body printing, packaging
and, if necessary, programming.

How
does it play - if it is not round? |
 |
| The unique design allows
it to fit into any standard CD-ROM drive. It fits snugly into
the tray and plays just like a regular CD. It does not have to
be round, but it does have to have edges that touch the rim of
the 80mm tray in your CD-ROM / DVD drive. The rectangular card
has a moulded 80mm plateau on the underside of the card. We DO
NOT supply cards with punched out pins or shaped CD's, due to
the danger of them breaking in the computer drive tray. They
also have a tendency to fly around like an airplane's propeller" -
and therefore do not work. The CD-R Business Cards work perfectly
in more than 99% of CD drives. |
 |
How
much do they weigh? |
 |
| Approximately
half the weight of a normal 5" CD - about 9½ grams.
Perfect weight for sending through the post. |
 |
What
packaging is available? |
 |
| There are many different types of packaging available,
the most popular being the clear PVC wallet. Although the Crystal Jewel Case
makes for a very attractive presentation. We stock all formats as well as designing
and creating new concepts for clients. |
 |
Will
my Card work in all CD-ROM players? |
 |
| Yes if the CD-ROM drive tray has a slot for a 80mm
CD. But the card will definitely NOT work in a Car CD player or CD stacker
or Jukebox. The simple answer is "almost all computer machines". |
 |
How & when
can I start making my own CD Business Cards? |
 |
You can now purchase a starter kit that includes all you'll need to get
started. See the Starter
Kits page for details. This will give you
the opportunity to make your own CD-R Business Cards that can include:
- BUSINESS
or PERSONAL DATA, SOFTWARE, MUSIC, VIDEO etc.
- ON-BODY
GRAPHIC DESIGN
Starter
kits include
a label applicator, high gloss photo quality labels,
jewel cases, plastic wallets and of course, CD-R's. |
 |
What
is the size of a CD-R Card? |
 |
| The most popular are the
oblong cards 61mm x 86mm with 50Mb capacity. For details of other
available sizes contact Toucan eMedia. |
 |
How
much information can a standard factory produced CD-ROM
Card hold? |
 |
A
standard CD-ROM Business Card holds approximately 50Mb. This
is the equivalent to:-
- 5
minutes of video
- a
100 minute presentation
- or
3,000 pages of text with pictures
Virtually
anything that works on a full-size CD-ROM works
on these business card cd's. CD's are read from the
centre out, therefore any increase in capacity is commensurate
with the width and length of the card. (For example
a 80mm round disc will hold 210Mb and a normal
5" CD
700Mb.) |
 |
How
much information can a CD-R Card hold? |
 |
| This
is dependent on the size of the card. Our cards standard cards
hold 50MB . Other sized CD Cards are available from 30MB
to 100MB. CD's are read from the
centre out, therefore any increase in capacity is commensurate
with the width and length of the card. For example a 80mm
round disc will hold 210MB and a normal 5" CDR 700MB. |
 |
What
speed can I write my CD-R? |
 |
| For
the highest reliability recording we recommend you use 4x recording
speed. |
 |
Are
all CD-R Business Cards guaranteed to work in my CD writer? |
 |
| Yes,
in 99.9% of all CD re-writers, although we suggest you purchase
10 initially to test on your machine if there is any doubt,
then buy bulk. The cards will also normally record in DVD writers,
but some writers are incompatible with some CDR Card stock when
recording. |
 |
Can
I print on any CD-R? |
 |
| No, only cards that have
an inkjet printable surface. Toucan eMedia can offer these however
the image quality is poorer than with a photo quality label. |
 |
Can
I print labels to stick onto the CD-R business card? |
 |
| You can now print onto "Photo
Quality High Gloss Labels" for CD-R Business Cards. We also
stock a unique "Easy to Use" Label Applicator to apply
the labels accurately and provide downloadable
templates.
The label option gives a far superior finish when compared with
directly printing onto the cards with in jet printable surfaces. |
 |
What
is the total manufacturing time if we want Toucan eMedia
to produce our CD-R? |
 |
| From order placement and
receipt of 2 CD-R's (1 for data & 1 for on-body design) to
delivery is usually 6 business days, although we can probably
put them through faster depending on the time of year. We request
a print of your on-body design and notes of any specific colours
to match with their Pantone reference if applicable. We will
work closely with you to ensure your deadlines are achieved. |
 |
What
if I have my own data content? |
 |
| Supply
us with a working, virus free CD-R and we do the rest. |
 |
What
if I don't have my own content? |
 |
| We also specialise in
the cutting edge technology that is required to author a CD-ROM
or CD-R. We will handle everything from concept to supplying
the finished presentation. Contact
us for details. |
 |
What
if I don't have my own on-body design? |
 |
| We have design facilities
at your disposal at a competitive cost – we will work with
you to ensure you have the design that fits your marketing needs
and is within budgetary requirements. |
 |
How
much will it cost to develop a new Multimedia programme for
a CD-ROM or CD-R? |
 |
| How
long is a piece of string? Each project is unique and possesses
its own individual characteristics. Our associate multimedia
company specialises in authoring and will handle this. Contact
us with your requirement. You should budget from £400
upwards for a multimedia presentation. |
 |
Can
I record audio files that will play on my audio CD player ? |
 |
| Just as you can record
CDA format to a 700MB CDR, you can do the same to a 50MB CDR
business card. The only limitation is the smaller capacity and
the CD drive must be a tray loader with the standard 80 inner
ring. |
